The Story of The Goodwin

History of The Goodwin West Hartford

The Goodwin was developed based on the strong need to provide more housing options, at modest pricing, in the highly desirable Town of West Hartford.  People want to be in our town for the excellent school system, great restaurants, walkable neighborhoods, low crime, and friendly people.

And word is getting out. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine and Family Circle Magazine have both recognized West Hartford as a great place for families. Connecticut Magazine ranks our town as a great place to retire. Hartford Magazine places West Hartford as the #1 Town overall in the region.  West Hartford has something for everyone.  It is with this in mind that The Goodwin was designed for everyone.

Being in West Hartford has its benefits and being in The Goodwin will bring its own additional benefits. Most of the housing stock in West Hartford, like much of New England, was built decades ago and, on average, is older than in most other parts of the country.  The Goodwin, however, as a newly constructed development will offer some of the latest in modern design and amenities.  It is designed to make you proud to call it home.

Because we are proud to build this community in West Hartford, we chose a local name recommended by the West Hartford Historical Society. The Goodwin family were the manufacturers of Goodwin Pottery, which was a nationwide business run from West Hartford in the 1800s till the turn of the last century.  Although the Goodwin name is used widely in the region, we wanted to bring it back to West Hartford.

    Construction Has Begun

    In the summer of 2013, we had the official groundbreaking for The Goodwin and began taking names for our wait list on our new website.

    2014

    Complete Building Fit Out

    From fall 2013 until summer 2014, we will finish the site work, lay the foundation, and completely fit out the building. In summer 2014, we will also begin lease signing and a model unit will be made available.

    2014

    Construction Complete

    With construction complete, we will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening for The Goodwin. Residents will also be able to begin moving in.

Our spacious one-bedroom units will include living room, dining area, and eat-in kitchen. Washer and dryer are included in the unit, and ample closet space is available in the foyer and bedroom.

2-Bedroom Unit

Our two-bedroom units will include living room and dining area. These apartments will feature two general-purpose closets, as well as a closet in each bedroom. The units feature washer and dryer and one full and one half bath.

3-Bedroom Unit

Our generous three-bedroom units will include a living room and dining area. Each of three bedrooms will offer a spacious closet. The units feature washer and dryer and one full and one half bath.

The Goodwin West Hartford Apartments

After several months of site work including installation of utilities, a storm-water system, building foundation, and binder course of paving The Goodwin has begun vertical construction.

West Hartford Housing Authority Meets Hartford-Area Housing Challenge with The Goodwin

West Hartford, Connecticut – January 17, 2014 - The West Hartford Housing Authority has responded proactively to the increasing need for modern, convenient housing in the Hartford area.

A recent report released by Reis, Inc., a real estate research firm, noted that the Hartford metro area currently has a 2.8% vacancy rate, down by .4% from last year. “We are not surprised to see the Hartford area as one of the top 10 lowest vacancy areas in the country,” says George Howell, CEO of the West Hartford Housing Authority. “However, this report underscores the importance of our mission and our work.”

The West Hartford Housing Authority and its affiliate the West Hartford Housing Corporation are meeting the challenge of this housing shortage. The Goodwin, an apartment community aimed at providing modestly priced housing within the town of West Hartford, is currently under construction and is slated for completion in fall 2014.

As a newly constructed property, The Goodwin will offer residents high-end amenities like building-wide WiFi, a cyber café, washer/dryer in each apartment, and Nest® climate controls, but all at an affordable rental rate. The property will be located at 189 Newington Road, West Hartford, a short commute into Hartford and with easy access to shopping, restaurants, schools, and more. Farmington Bank Helps Finance West Hartford Affordable Housing Project
